Valentine’s Day is among us once again and whether you’re planning a night of seduction, mutual adulation with girlfriends or you’re committed to the couch, there will be no escaping tomorrow’s gushiness.
Red lipstick is the obvious choice, but the case for pink has been gathering pace, and is a sagacious nod to the day. Seen at Giles for Spring, and this week at New York Fashion Week by Diane Von Furstenburg, pink lips no longer have bubble-gum connotations.
Whether you wear it matte, glossy or as a tint, pink suits all skin tones and when paired with a primed but bare face and just a hint of mascara, it is age-defying and face-freshening.
Look for a strong pigment to channel the sexy girl-next-door who’s just blossomed and doesn’t know quite how hot she is; it’s a sure winner.
Grand daughter of Estee Lauder, Aerin, recently launched her own eponymous brand. Her rose-scented creamy lipsticks all inspired by gardens in spring, come in varying shades of pink. Camelia, a rich deeper pink is great for those not quite ready to leave red behind.
Whilst peppy pink, Lolabird comes as a mini-lipstick, perfect for clutch-bags and tomorrow’s festivities.
Aerin, Lolabird, priced £24 is available at Neiman Marcus. Camelia, available at Estee Lauder, and Selfridges. £24.
The fact that this lipstick is called Aphrodisiac says it all really. Tom Ford the king of colour, has once again outdone himself.
Part of the Jardin Noir collection, Aphrodisiac, is infused with Brazilian murumuru butter, chamolilia flower oil, and soka seed extract which condition the lips and make application easy; whilst the specially blended pigments guarantee a bold colour.
Tom Ford, Aphrodisiac, Available at Neiman Marcus £48. Ravenous (another great pink-with a glossier finish) is available at Harrods, £36.
You can never go wrong with Nars, and as Francois often formulates colours specifically for the catwalk, you know their shades will always be current.
This semi-matte pink, is intense in pigment, long-lasting and enriched with lip-conditioning properties, to keep lips from drying out and will keep you on-trend from this summer to next winter; it’s a real winner and it looks damn cool.
