The Met Ball is undoubtedly fashion’s biggest night of the year, mostly thanks to its Queen Anna Wintour. The past few years have seen everyone from Prada to McQueen as the evening’s focus, this year was all about punk. Not everyone got the memo, with Nicole Richie channelling The Little Mermaid’s Ursula and others just ignoring it completely. However those that could did, and they did good. Here are Blush’s favourite looks of the night.
Sienna Miller, fuelled more rumours that she is set to be the newest Burberry face, as she rocked up in Burberry head-to-toe.
Burberry face or not (though she clearly is) Sienna was my favourite of the night for striking the perfect balance. She wind for her studded hairband, her straggly ends, her backless gown and that studded biker, love.
Cara Delevingne, who has already proved it is physically impossible for her to look bad, was faultless once more. Also in Burberry, Cara’s deep plunging gown with gold studded sleeves, somehow managed to look tasteful. Love the smokey eyes, comb over and cornrows.
Carey Mulligan was never going to be cray, but her cut-out Balenciaga gown with a giant safety pin in place of a statement necklace, was a smart and subtle nod to the night’s theme.
Jourdan Dunn looked lovely as always in an off-the-shoulder encrusted gown with sheer train, smokey eyes and a braided crown. The model attended with Chloe Green and Ashley Madekwe all in custom Topshop.
So I’m totally team Hannah, but Alison Willams has made me love Marnie just a little bit more in this. It’s slightly gothic, but this sheer panelled Altuzarra gown just looks divine teamed with smokey eyes and glossy curls.
Lily Cole looks a bit cray, but cray in a good way. It’s all very Nick Knight but most importantly she’s in Westwood. I couldn’t believe how few people wore Westwood, but Lily smashed it in this Vivienne Westwood dress with a nude corset top and sheer luminescent organza skirt, plus the hair and the lips are just punk perfection.
Cristina Ricci, probably shouldn’t have worn those shoes, but for wearing Westwood all is forgiven. Love the burgundy and teal tartan, with gathered front and train, nicely offset with groomed hair and glossy red lips.
I don’t normally rate Emma Watson, but her in this dress was simply stunning. Love the swept back up-do and the subtly slit sides of this Prabal gown.
Gisele, there are no words. Except that Gisele + Anthony Vaccarello = Hot.
Karen Elson wasn’t exactly punk but this feathered floor-length gold Julie Macdonald halter neck gown. To all the red-heads out there, go for gold.
I know Madonna looks a bit nutty, but she lived through Punk and is having fun with it, and punk is all about abandoning the rules- like wearing a skirt. I love it.
Rooney Mara punked up her snow white Givenchy gown with red wine lips, slicked back hair and defined eyes, no wonder Riccardo Tisci’s her date.
Sienna Miller with Tom Sturridge, Abbey Lee in AW13/14 Marc Jacobs and Nick Hoult, these guys make the list for just looking so goddam cool.
