This summer’s truly separated the sartorial men from the boys, or the pros from the novices perhaps.
When it’s as hot as it is now, there’s little you can do. Overwhelmed by the heat, the question of whether you’re channelling sixties graphism or 40s nostalgia, doesn’t enter your mind, and nor should it. When it’s this hot, who cares what’s in Vogue, all you really need is a fine cotton tank and some cut-offs. Understandably, it is at this time of year, when you see people’s true style emerge and they revert to the pieces they love, opting for whatever makes them feel comfortable.
Miranda Kerr, Georgia May Jagger and Olivia Palermo, all spotted out and about this week, are perfect examples of this. From one glance you can make a pretty accurate estimate of their style and roots.
Georgia May is rock royalty, the paisley -a seventies staple, affronts her bleached denim dungarees (a tick for 90s nostalgia), the coral bandeau provides the summery pop of colour, whilst the Ray-bans and white rose scream I’m cool, I’m deep and I’m with the band (just in case you can’t see my access-all-areas pass)
Miranda Kerr has made her money from her modelling, as a Victoria’s Secrets and Swimwear model initially, although she is one of the few to cross over into the upper echelons. Though Miranda is now living the high life in NYC, she is an Aussie babe to her core. Her style is effortless beach babe: frizz-free honeyed highlights, a fine black tank, sheer printed maxi and flat singularly-strapped sandals, which offset the whole look effortlessly.
Olivia Palermo knows how to dress, this we know, yet every time I see a picture of her, I feel like I’m learning this fact all over again.
Palermo, the New York City society girl, has come a long way since the days of her being mean to Whitney in The City. Palermo’s style reflects who she is- a New Yorker, with a perfect blow-dry, who has spent many a summer holidaying in Paris, honing her European flair.
Whilst out shopping with her dashing beau Johannes Huebl, Palermo, opted for nude Aquazurra sandals, a semi-pleated white dress, and a relaxed Elise Berger lace top over it, with pillar box red toes, alluding to the potential of a wild side.
Whoever you want to be this summer, these three prove it’s easiest to stick to what you know, and love.
