We saw Joan Smalls do it at Paris Fashion Week and Blake Lively mastered it on the Gucci front row. Cara Delevingne did it at the Met Ball and she’s done it again.
It seems the go-to look for downplaying a sexy look these day is side-swept hair. A chignon or a bun, despite the latter being facelifting, can occasionally look a bit prissy.
Trading the cornrows for gel has made the look even easier to achieve; all you need is to comb a good mousse through damp hair, blow-dry, swiftly straighten and give a spritz of Elnett.
(I’ve tried so hard to give other hairsprays a go, but L’Oreal’s still has the most invisible hold).
Alternatively, if you have poker straight hair, are feeling a more undone look (or are just in a lazy mood,) a cluster of kirby grips, or one giant hair-slide will have the same effect.
The side-swept look is the edgiest way of making an effort without looking over the top at the moment; It’s the 2013 girl’s Cheryl wave, or dare I remind us that we did it, the quiff.
