Testing the Treatment – Blink @ Selfridges

I’ve always opted for threading over waxing, mainly because the only time I had my eyebrows threaded I cried like a baby. So you could imagine my trepidation when I was invited along to sample a brow treatment at Blink. Thankfully I needn’t have worried. I walked up to the Blink counter on the ground floor of Selfridges -which has recently been transformed into heaven for beauty enthusiasts- to be greeted by a smiling receptionist with brows groomed to perfection; it seemed I was in very safe hands.

After I was checked in she asked me to take a seat in whichever chair I felt comfortable in. Within the minute a beautician welcomed me and asked me what I wanted from the appointment. After I mumbled: “I think I just want a touch up, but want to keep them thick”, the beautician had a look at my brows and suggested on using a pencil after to fill in my gaps. Within seconds she reclined my chair, a restored vintage barber chair in ladylike pastel, and got to work.

I’m not sure if it was her calming presence or the angle of the chair but my second threading experience was a treat in comparison to my first.

After each brow was given a light trim, the beautician penciled my first brow and let me have a look. The difference was subtle but clear, so she showed me how I’d do it at home. The trick, as she taught me, is to gently pencil the outline, which she said gives the brows structure and shape, then sweep the pencil across the brow and most importantly, blend with a brow brush for a natural finish.
I couldn’t have been happier with my first trip, of what will surely be many, to Blink. It’s the perfect lunch time treat, leaving you with groomed brows tailored to you in ten minutes.
