Whether stranded on a desert island or packing for a holiday, one of my must-have products is a black kohl eyeliner.
This modest, unassuming pencil, holds the key to so many beautiful, bold looks. The most notorious perhaps is the post-party, morning-after look demonstrated at the Topshop Unique SS14 show.
Inspired by the Ibiza party girl, Topshop‘s offering was a daring -but welcome- contrast from the fresh faced trend that has dominated the season.
To achieve this look you’ll need a great kohl liner to line both the top and bottom lash lines.
M.A.C have long dominated the market with their… Liner, but Urban Decay‘s 24/7 Glide on Pencil (£15 from UrbanDecay.com) is the strongest of contenders- it effortlessly glides on, stays put and does all you’d hope a black liner would do.
If you’re after something that will stay on until the next morning, Benefit’s Bad Gal Eyeliner (£15.50 available at Boots.com) is the one for you.
To ensure a faultless frame around the eyes layer a cake liner like Laura Mercier Tightline cake eyeliner (£19 at SpaceNK) into the roots of the lashes.
L’Oréal Miss Manga mascara (£8.99 at Boots) is a good choice here as volume can be added into the roots and the bottom lashes coated easily.
Finally to finish this morning-after, sultry look, add a little glow to the face with M.A.C Mixing Medium Shine (£15 available at M.A.C). It is another multi-tasking product that I am fond of. This is a clear cream that is used as a base for pigment, glittery or shimmer loose shadows. However, it can also be used by itself to offer a glossy, dewy quality to both eyelids and cheek bones.
If you’re after a more traditional highlighter, Topshop’s Glow Highlighter in Gleam (£9, Topshop.com) is a handy product to have in your arsenal.
Mastering bed hair is simple thanks to Bumble and Bumble. Work their Texture Hair (Un)dressing Creme (£22 at Boots) into damp hair and style with a diffuser.
Alternatively loose waves can be added with a curling wand- wrap for under a minute, let cool and then release. To add volume and texture into the roots, Paul Mitchell‘s Dry Wash (£9.95 at Lookfantastic.com), is a great option as it lasts longer than your average dry shampoo and smells great.
To finish spray hairspray Paul Mitchell‘s Stay Strong (£16.50 at Lookfantastic.com) into your hands and rub the ends of the hair together. This defines ends and gives waves an undone, slept in finish.
Now you’re ready to party all night and stay up all morning.
