Miu Miu SS14 was a celebration of all things retro. Lace-up knee-high boots in suede and pastel leather, came over over-the-knee socks and beneath mini skirts and floral (or cat) print jackets. The entire collection was kooky and offbeat- signature Miuccia Prada– with a dash of sex appeal. To compliment this Sixties sex kitten, hair was straight and centre-parted. Models’ faces were left bare except for a little foundation and a sweep of pastel shadow across the eyes. The minty marine blue was by far the standout and is actually one of the season’s easiest looks to recreate.
As it’s summer and this is quite a day look, I’d opt for a tinted moisturiser or BB Cream.
Liz Earle‘s (£21, John Lewis) is great and lightweight, but Bobbi Brown (£29, John Lewis) and Smashbox (£29, Boots) have BB and CC Creams, respectively, which cater for a wide range of skin tones. The great thing about all three is they’re very lightweight, are actually better for your skin and all have a high enough SPF for you not to have to worry about a surge in sunshine.
Lightly dust your face with powder to set the look and then it’s on to the eyes. If you’re really going for it, you can prep eyelids with Laura Mercier‘s Eye Basics in Eye Bright (£20.50, SpaceNK). It’s great for removing any redness or simply brightening the eyelid, and also helps to keep shadow in place for longer.
Next up is the colour. Most Blush readers will know I am obsessed with By Terry‘s handy shadow sticks that glide on and don’t budge (particularly the black one which is great for smokey eyes). For summer and conveniently perfect for this look, By Terry have launched their Ombre Blackstar in Paradise Island, or ‘Blue Lagoon’ (£28, SpaceNK) depending on where you buy it. These shadow sticks last for absolutely ages so it means you’ll be able to use it next season to recreate Prada AW14, but the quality of the product is on another level, when compares to other high street brands.
Finally all you need is a good lip balm. Maybelline‘s Baby Lips (£2.99 at Boots) is a cult favourite, mainly because it keeps lips soft, hydrated and it’s a bargain.
So that’s it. The simplest ‘Get the Look‘ so far, with the highest impact, thank you Miu.
