Up until the other day my knowledge of Crabtree & Evelyn was limited to something my grandmother would give to my mother for Christmas and/or her birthday, every year without fail. This is precisely the magic of the generation crossing brand which is currently playing to its strengths with a ‘Handy Tips’ campaign where you are invited to share your family beauty secrets and celebrate the ancestors who inspired them. In honour of this, I went to the launch party on Regent Street to raise a glass (or two) of elderflower prosecco.
On entry, one is greeted by a cutout of a tree decorated with paper blossoms and leaves inscribed with hand-me-down beauty tips ranging from the classic “drink plenty of water” and “get plenty of sleep”, to the slightly more adventurous: “rub turmeric into the skin”, and the humorous – “don’t have children”. The first thing you notice once in the shop is the delightfully quaint packaging patterned in watercolour fruits and flowers that make Crabtree & Evelyn products such appropriate gifts, for yourself as well as others.
Beyond the lines of Jojoba Oil and La Source (my granny’s favourites) I was delighted to discover the fresh and fruity, youthfully scented, ultra-moisturising Pear & Pink Magnolia, and Pomegranate, Argan & Grapeseed ranges; try out the hand therapy creams for starters (£5 for a handbag friendly tube). Furthermore I was introduced to Crabtree & Evelyn fragrances: eau de toilettes and colognes in very cute, vintage-style perfume bottles that again dispel the maturer bouquet of C&E, alongside exotic, premium eau de parfums inspired by scents of the Middle East – the ‘Persian Thé’ is ambrosial.
So whether you are looking for something classic or contemporary, Crabtree & Evelyn has something for you, your mother and grandmother too.
Throughout the months of May and June Crabtree & Evelyn will be hosting in-house events with delicious refreshments where you can share your beauty tips and receive a £5 voucher. Jo Fairley, top beauty journalist (and founder of Green & Black’s chocolate) will also be making a special appearance at the Regent Street store on the 6th June to share her special tips and answer any beauty questions you may have.
