Monday at LFW is classically the day for the big dogs to show. Burberry wowed with painterly trenches, the fantastic James Bay and Kate and Cara on the front row, whilst Tom Ford gave a sexed up rock chic to challenge Hedi Slimane’s supremacy as the King of rock & roll. But as always, for me at least, Christopher Kane was the best in show. Kane is the one we all wait for, much like Prada in Milan or Alexander Wang in New York, some designers simply dominate the season and master the mood of the moment. For SS15 Kane played peek-a-boo with tulle, silk and organza blouses, dresses and skirts, unabashedly baring all. But it wasn’t simply the body that Kane economically endeavoured to expose. Nor was it the beauty of the braided tulle dresses and crisp satin suits, but the beauty of the wearer, that he was equally concerned with highlighting. Consequently models were made up with only a dewy foundation and a natural pink lipstick, allowing the brushed up eyebrows to frame their faces in the absence of a contour kit. Knowing that Milan is around the corner where we will surely be seeing an abundance of bronzer at Versace, Kane’s proposition was, what everyone needs on a sweltering summer’s day, something refreshing.
