Fashion month is coming to an end and whilst all the editors and digital viewers are getting to grips with what’s in store for next summer, I thought it was best to get you prepped for the coming season, Autumn/Winter.
The catwalks showed an abundance of outlandish looks: cornrow crowns and feathered brows at Alexander McQueen and the Givenchy facelift (bleached brows taped at the temples,) being the most memorable examples.
Whilst these will be fantastic looks to channel at a bacchanalian bash or a Halloween do, they’re not so handy for every day (and at Blush we’re into things we can actually wear out). Mascara, my little pony tails and seventies sidies ruled supreme, thanks to the likes of Pat McGrath and Val Garland at Gucci, Valentino and Versace. These are the trends know you’ll want to wear all Autumn/Winter and can actually be arsed to recreate.
1. Lashes – at Prada, Versace, Gucci
Stacked, clumped and false, lashes were huge this season. Perfect for simulating a sixties siren.
2. My little pony tail – Valentino, Chanel
Chanel did them high and bursting with colourful braids. Valentino showed the most inventive and achievable of ponytails. All you need is long hair and some elastics.
3. Teenage kohl- Marc by Marc, Tom Ford, Topshop Unique
Harking back to our teen days where we would scribble on so much liner it was hard to blink, teenage kohl was back on the catwalk at Marc by Marc Jacobs, and sexed up at Tom Ford.
4. Dancer hair – Diane Von Furstenburg, Prada, Altuzurra, Erdem
If you want to show the world you’re a serious person now, a sleek bun is the way to go. They were low and centre parted at Prada and high and Royal-ballet-ready at DVF. Whichever way you go, the trick is to keep it sleek.
5. Top liner with a twist – Dior, Burberry, Kenzo
Coloured liner has been going strong for seasons now, for autumn winter designers opted for a latex like strip across the lids, giving the classic cat eye a 2014 lift.
6. The Sidey- Gucci, Rodarte, Carven, Dries Van Noten
A side swept fringe, or Sidey as I like to call it, is a great way of being done but not too prim. At Gucci it made leather shifts less severe with a retro nod. I always think a sidey is a pretty arty look, which is exactly why it cropped up on the catwalks of Dries and Rodarte.
7. Faux Glow- Stella McCartney, Isabel Marant, Victoria Beckham
If you’re not really into the gothic look or can’t bare pasty skin, then Stella, Isabel and Victoria are your ladies. All opted for a healthy bronze glow on skin, easily achieved with a smidgen of illuminator and shimmer bronzer. Go easy though, it’s not actually summer!
8. Bold Black – Lanvin, Dries
Last but not least is another take on everyday liner as seen at Lanvin and Dries. Instead of stopping at the classic wing Lanvin opted for smudged black shadow, a soft yet striking look which sat happily among Alber’s grown-up leather gowns, whilst Dries opted for a latex oil slick across eyelids to offset his psychedelic separates.
