Ever since I saw last winter’s Celine ads, I have been desperate for a pair of over the knee boots. I spent hours, days even, scouring the internet and running to random stores on my lunch break; I even went to Dune, which was random and surprisingly ok. Anyway, after a good fortnight of ferocious window shopping for over-the-knee boots in August! I finally succeeded and was rewarded with a pair of suede beauties from Zara, with the added bonus of a sixties chunky heel. Suffice to say, for my Topshop LFW Street-style shoot (on an annoyingly sunny September day,) my boots were the first thing I reached for. Luckily for me, but sadly for most, they’ve now sold out.
However, fear not, thanks to their omnipresence on the streets and red carpets of Paris Fashion Week, the OTK boot is back on the high-street with a vengeance. And whilst many readers and friends of mine may wonder why I insist on writing about fashion on an apparent beauty site, in the case of the OTK boot, their necessary presence is clear. Like a red lipstick, or swish of mascara, the OTK boot is all you need to lift an outfit. As Elena Perminova and Jourdan Dunn showed, you can wear a jumper with them and still look smoking; or like Olivia Palermo and Julia Restoin Roitfeld, use them as a tool to scream, I am classy, but goddam it am I sexy.
Get the look:
These Topshop boots were first on my list, but at the time they’d run out of my size; apparently everyone’s a seven these days. The heel gives sexy, but the exaggerated opening will look as good with jeans as a mini dress. Great for: channelling Cara.
Sadly they are now sold out, but you can find lots more here.
Urban Outfitters, are a great place to find the labels you didn’t know you loved yet. These OTK boots from Swedish label, Vagabond are flat- for all the tall girls out there, or anyone who just hates to be in heels. A hearty sole and soft suede make these the perfect boots for the weekend (and every other day). Great for: life.
Vagabond, Cary boots, £160 at Urban Outfitters.
If, like seemingly every woman on the tube, you’re a fan of Michael Kors (and to be fair there’s no reason not to be), then these are the boots for you. Now stocked at Kurt Geiger, and also available in tan if you’re feeling a Seventies vibe, these are the highest and (in terms of construction) best looking boots on the list. They also feature a pretty gangster gold plate at the back, if that’s your thing. Great for: pretending you’re in NYC.
Michael Michael Kors, Regina Tall Boot, £285 at Kurt Geiger.
