Kanye West has been telling anyone who’ll listen that he loves fashion, wants to design another collection and has so much styling nous to impart on us all (he did after all invent leather tracksuit bottoms, apparently). So when the time for Kanye’s first show, as part of his collaboration with Adidas Originals, came, everyone wanted to see whether he could do a better job than he did the first time around. This show wasn’t exactly re-writing the rule book on fashion, but it was a triumph nonetheless, mainly because Kanye did what he does best- luxe street wear. The collection was a lesson in shabby street chic, with a diverse mix of models (including little sis-in-law Kylie Jenner), in distressed sweaters, ruched trackies and oversized fatigues, given the Margiela twist with flesh-coloured hosiery.
Though I loved everything about it including the new dove grey Yeezys, the turnout was definitely my highlight. P. Diddy and Jay-Z lounging on the Frow, fashion faves Kendall Jenner and Alexander Wang hanging out backstage and an awkward embrace between Rihanna and Beyonce; It was the stuff celebrity-obsessives dreams are made of.
Whilst Kanye was definitely pulling in the big dogs, elsewhere at NYFW, there were many more looks to love.
Blake Lively’s super straight side parting, reaffirmed her as the best hair in Hollywood. Desperate Housewives fitty Jesse Metcalfe made a return to the spotlight looking as good as he did the day he had it off with Eva; Whilst fashion royalty Julia Restoin-Roitfeld rocked up at the Gabriela Cadena show in all black everything and her signature centre-parting. The Kardashian-Jenners showed up to support their brother-in-law a second time, this time at the Roc Nation 1st Annual party. And to think we’ve still got five more days to go; I heart Fashion Week.
