Get the Look – Neon

At this time of year there’s usually a micro trend that feeds into our collective subconscious and lets us know that summer’s on its way.  Last summer it was orange lipstick, this year it’s all about a flash of fluorescence.

Neon has been popping up consistently since Gigi Hadid wore her colour-blocked triangle at the Victoria’s Secret Pool party earlier this month but once I saw Joan Smalls at Coachella, it was decided; neon is officially a thing.

It seems we’re finally over sailor stripes and ditzy florals, this summer it’s all about neon. At a recent festival-themed party in Brixton I wore my citrus Calvin Klein crop top under a cropped white knit, a neo-rave look that seemed suddenly inspired. Later in Berlin- when I was too hanging to think- and I wanted a look that made me look like I had at least heard of exercise, I whipped out my neon crop and wore it under a sheer chiffon off-white blouse.

With record day coming up and festival season approaching, whether you buy into neon as swimwear or sportswear, there’s no piece that will work harder for you this summer.
