I’m going to reveal a trade secret that I may regret, but whenever I go vintage shopping, the first thing I look for is a belt; mainly because you need one in the changing rooms to figure out whether the pinstriped sack that you’ve fallen in love with, really can be transformed into a dress. But most importantly because I’ve uncovered a lot of gems in my time. Chanel chain belts, 90s Versace and the current apple of my eye; my vintage black and gold Gucci logo belt, which has proven extremely crucial in the past couple of weeks of schizophrenic weather.
It seems that Kendall Jenner and I are on the same page, because I don’t think I’ve seen her without one of her B-Low the belt belts for the last fortnight. Whilst a belt may not exactly be groundbreaking, there’s no better way to elevate a pair of ASOS Ridleys, or enliven a lace blouse and jeans combo.
I’ve been teaming my vintage Gucci with 70s button-up denim skirts and high waisted jeans, as I reacclimatise. Next season- thankfully enough- is all about the waspie waist belt: whether you go kimono style a la Cara Delevigne, Western like Kendall, or noughties flashy with a good old fashioned look at me logo.
Whilst I love my vintage belts dearly, I’ll be saving up for next season’s Gucci belt, courtesy of new Creative Director Alessandro Michele, who introduced a new logo with a surprisingly alluring matte finish, which he paired with pleated leather skirts and pom pom lace up sandals. It’s a new take on a classic, that I really must get, in my life, now.
