There’s nothing like a beauty roundup, to get you ready for the season ahead. Unlike seasons before, Autumn/Winter ’15 was neither minimal nor extreme, but somewhere safely in between. As always kohl liner featured heavily, as did fashion’s penchant for purity – with perfectly prepped faces and groomed and full brows, taking centre stage once again. In a season that fell madly back in love with the 80s and all things outlandish, the new beauty looks made the perfect canvas for the season’s cosy velvets and fur trims.
1. Bushy brows:
Fendi, Prada, Versace, Jil Sander, Jonathan saunders, Marni, Pucci; the list goes on. This was definitely the season that the brow came into its own: groomed, full, fair – less extreme than we’ve seen it, and surprisingly more effective.
2. Wild & free
I imagine Topshop Unique’s girl to be a country dweller, circa Jane Austen, who’s escaped from her castle to spend the afternoon frolicking in a field with her rugged lover. A mischievous English rose her wild hair, rosy cheeks and bushy brows make her the perfect youth muse.
3. Grown up goth
For his mainline collection Marc Jacobs, turned models into glamorous goth ladies, with rigid angular black brows and washed out deep plum lips. At Ashley Williams’ poker straight centre-parted hair, pastel pink shadow, bruised berry lips and clumped lashes, gave her goth a bit of gloss. Whilst at Giles, bares faces and matte black lips, were the most modern take on the look yet.
Literally an old school classic, the hair band was back for the season. And whilst it came elastic, ribbon and leather in form, it was decidedly Blair Waldorf, in style.
The face became the canvas for make-up artists to unleash their creativity. At Anthony Vaccarello the easily achievable half star, is a nice way to add a little eye art without looking like a clown. Pat McGrath and Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy were inspired by Victorian jewellery and chola girls, which resulted in the surprisingly gorgeous slicked-down baby hairs and pearl jewelled gems.
6. Wet hair
A lot less glamorous than last season’s Balmain sweep-back, this season wet hair was given a sporty upgrade with wet ponytails, surfer waves and a sophisticated sweep back.
Whether Summer, Spring, Autumn or Winter, the classic black kohl liner always makes an appearance; this time at Lanvin, Chanel, Cavalli, Versace and Marc by Marc.
8. Natural perfection
The no make-up make-up look, gets slightly more made up, with slightly more colour on the lips, slightly more colour on the cheeks and slightly more colour on the brows; and is still the best way to leave everybody guessing.
