As AW16 sees a confident return to the maximalist, bow down to the fabric commanding the spotlight for the season: velvet.
The sensual textile is the epitome of elegance, bringing a feminine touch of glamour to all who catch its eye.
As either a statement piece in itself, or as the backdrop to loud embellishments, the fail-safe rule of AW16 is a touch velvet.

Dripping in decadence, the velvet evening dress turned heads at both Ralph Lauren and Alberta Ferretti. Prada swept the floor with a 1930s inspired look of post-war chic. Indulging in opulent, embroidered dresses that look as if they’d been hand picked out of the wardrobe of Downton’s Lady Mary.

Solve your autumnal outerwear hang ups by investing in a light velvet jacket. Life is a rich tapestry, or so says the embroidered velvet jacket from Vero Moda. A cool oversized bomber from Jaded X, or structured blazer from Rokit, prove it couldn’t be easier to make this versatile fabric work in your favour.
Thinking ahead to the festive months, Reformation is a brand not to be overlooked. In the department of jaw-dropping velvet evening dresses, we look in particular to the plunging neckline of the Bordeaux dress and the burnt out velvet Perseus dress. Simply divine.
